Luke van Schie

Mr. van Schie’s love for teaching was birthed during a trip to Fiji in 2006 where he had the privilege to work with the Fijian youth on remote islands teaching sports. In 2007 he enrolled at the University of Sydney to become a P.E. and Health teacher and had the opportunity to travel to the U.S.A. on an exchange program. It was during this exchange he saw the need for quality P.E. and Health here in the United States and fell in love with Tucson.

After returning to Sydney and completing his degree, Mr. van Schie bought a ticket to return to Tucson and worked for a year at the Outback Steakhouse. It was during this time that he obtained his teaching certificate and secured a position at Mountain View High School as a P.E. and Health Teacher for the 2012-13 school year. He thoroughly enjoyed it and looked to broaden his experience teaching Middle School.

In August 2013 he was blessed to begin his journey as the boys P.E. teacher here at Secrist Middle School and looks forward to the years to come. Mr. van Schie loves the energy and enthusiasm of Middle School students and thinks that Secrist is a great community of people who are committed to seeing students learn and grow.

Mr. van Schie’s hobbies include hiking, mountain bike riding, playing the drum kit and playing  pretty much all sports!
